ARCHITECTS TO BE
What does an architect's everyday work look like? How does an idea evolve into a built space?
With these questions as a starting point, PROPLUSMA ARCHITECTS launched ARCHITECTS TO BE, a five-day educational program designed for high school students considering a future in architecture.
Through a rich and diverse program of activities, participants explored architecture from multiple perspectives, combining theoretical knowledge, experiential learning, and hands-on creative practice. For one week, students became part of the daily life of PROPLUSMA ARCHITECTS. They experienced the workings of a contemporary architectural practice, met the members of the design team, and gained insight into every stage of the architectural process, from the initial concept through to the realization of a project. The program featured an architectural walk along the historic Athenian Trilogy on Panepistimiou Street, focusing on architectural observation and freehand sketching, followed by a visit to the National Library of Greece - Vallianeio Megaron. By documenting and interpreting the built environment, participants discovered how careful observation becomes an essential design tool and made their first introduction to architectural drawing. The experience continued with a visit to One Athens Apartment in Kolonaki, a completed residential project by PROPLUSMA ARCHITECTS, where students witnessed how design decisions are translated into built form. The program was further enriched by a presentation from Vimar Hellas on smart home technologies, as well as a visit to the Afoi Deli Floor + Bath showroom, where participants explored contemporary materials, finishes, sanitaryware, and kitchen and bathroom solutions, gaining valuable insight into the relationship between design, materiality, and construction. The week concluded with a hands-on architectural model-making workshop, during which participants transformed their observations and ideas into three-dimensional compositions and presented their work to the architectural team.
More than an educational program, ARCHITECTS TO BE reflects PROPLUSMA ARCHITECTS' commitment to engaging with the next generation of architects. By opening the practice to young aspiring designers, the initiative offers an authentic introduction to the profession through observation, dialogue, and hands-on experience, helping students develop a deeper understanding of architecture as both a creative discipline and a future career path.
